The cemetery is the embodiment of sorrow and hope. The Catholic Church from its beginning paid special attention to burials of the deceased loved ones. Such practice was considered as one of the important works of mercy and a clear statement of the dignity of the human body and, above all, faith in the resurrection of Jesus.
Faithful to the tradition of the Church, Saint Joseph Parish purchased 35 acres of land on Old Worcester Road in Webster in 1888, and designated it as a burial place. The picturesque location of the grounds, surrounded by an evergreen forest, inspires reflection and prayer. As you enter the imposing main gate of St. Joseph Garden of Peace you are comforted with the words “I am the Resurrection and the Life” displayed on the arch of the gate.
The cemetery is an integral ministry of St. Joseph Basilica parish. It is sacred ground held in deep reverence and respect. According to tradition of our fathers this sacred site is a place of many devotions, processions and prayer services.
